After giving an overview of what probability means and examples of probability, we play the Fish Tank game online. This game is very interactive and great for students to do on your class whiteboard, or even on their own computers. BBC Maths has wonderful games and their sense of humor keeps kids engaged. The students will need to understand how to reduce and rename fractions. They'll also need concepts of how to convert fractions to decimals, percents. The game has 3 levels and there are 5 questions per level. The students love scooping out the red and yellow fish from the small tanks and adding them to the large tank to make the probability of catching a red fish a certain fraction. Now that the students have had an awesome time, you can become their favorite teacher by playing the game with FOOD!- yes FOOD! Get students to bring in Rainbow Goldfish and you can use this worksheet with this print out of aquariums. Create your own probability questions, or even have them create them and use their goldfish to solve the problems. Happy fishing!!!
There are many more games out there on probability-check out Katherine Carney's site. She has at least 8 more games listed for you.
